Lipid Binding C1 and C2 Domains
Left Panel Displays the C1 domain, a membrane penetrating module that interacts with diacylglycerol
Right panel displays the C2 domain of cytosolic phospholipase A2 alpha. A calcium (yellow), lipid and ceramide-1-phosphate (red) binding module.
Lipid binding sites are a 'hot spot' for novel therapeutics against cancer, arthritis, and heart disease. See Current Drug Targets article in 2008.
